My car was built in July 1989
which was the first month of twin turbo production.
The car was exported to Canada
so it has features to comply with Canadian regulations
including headlamp washers, daytime running lights and
a different seatbelt mounting arrangement than US cars.
The instruments are all in metric including a 260 kph
speedometer. My license plate is CDN SPEC (Canadian
Specification) to honor the car's Canadian heritage.
I bought the car in June 2004
from the original owner after seeing it offered on ebay.
I have the original bill of sale for the car which shows
that the previous owner had also made a deposit on another
TT with a VIN of JN1CZ24SLX000033. He told me that these
were two of the first three cars imported to Montreal.
There is no character in the VIN to differentiate US
versus Canada production so I believe mine is the 42nd
TT ever built.
When I purchased the car it had
only 18,504 kilometers on the odometer (11,498 miles).
The original owner was a Russian immigrant who told
me that the car was the symbol of his success. Clearly
it was more important to him to simply have the car
rather than to drive it.
The car was in outstanding original
condition. The original owner had taken it to Journee
Z Day, sponsored by the Z Owner's of Montreal club (ZOOM)
on three occasions and had won Best Original (Z32) in
1998, Best in Show and Best Interior in 1999 and Best
Original (Z32) in 2000. However the engine compartment
had never been touched so I spent many hours over the
winter detailing the engine compartment, suspension
and exhaust in order to compete in ZCCA judging. Other
improvements included new tires, two new interior panels,
new belts and hoses, and touching up scuffs on the edges
of two wheels.
I entered the car in three shows
in 2005 prior to the national convention in Syracuse.
The car won Best in Class (Sports--all makes and years)
at the International Auto Showcase in Syracuse in April,
Honorable Mention at Journee Z Day in Montreal in May
after losing a tie-breaking re-judge for Best Original
and First in Class at the 19th Annual Z Expo sponsored
by the White Rose Z Club in York, PA in June.
The car will remain all stock
and in Gold Medallion condition as long as I own it.
