Dear
Assorted Fellow Z Car Nuts:
Henry Costanzo has decided not to run for re-election this year as ZCCA’s
Assistant Executive Director. He
has made many valuable contributions to our Z Car Club Movement since being
elected to that office at our Tulsa Convention in 1999.
For our newer members, Henry was the major force in getting Mr. K to
attend his first ever Convention in Atlanta in 1995.
Since becoming Assistant Executive Director, he has been involved in many
facets of ZCCA, including the initiation of the Rep Forum, preparing the basic
Club information flyer every Club will receive at this year’s Convention,
jumped in at the last minute for the ZCCA hosted 2000 Las Vegas Convention to
run the Racetrack Event and chairing many ZCCA Committees over the years.
He and I have been and will continue to be good personal friends and I
look forward to Henry’s contributions in the years ahead [he will definitely,
as he has done through the years, forward his straight forward and direct views
on many topics – we have enjoyed many ‘direct’ exchanges through the yearsJ].

Mike,
It is not gravel (or gravel as we know it from the back
roads of Texas). The final 100 yards or so is a 3/4 inch base and it is a fine
rock. Trey has driven his car over
it and you know how picky he can be. We are wetting down that area and if needed
we have a plastic cover to go over it. No
one should be going fast enough at this point to have anything kick up.
My '71 will have a two week old paint job on it and I don't have any
problems driving over this area. Apparently some people have seen pictures and
think it is more gravel than there really is.
I'm not worried, Tom Gudowsk, Trey and Paul Rodriguez are not worried,
and I don't think Paul Hollander or Henry Costanzo are worried either.
See you in about 5.233 weeks. Troy
CAR
SHOW JUDGING MANUAL UPDATE
As previously reported in Kingston and from the information your received
in the last UPDATE, there are two categories for the Car Show this year: Stock
and Custom. The Judging Manual was
forwarded to everyone earlier this year with the ‘final’ version sent along
with the last UPDATE [it’s also on the website].
The first change involves a
clarification:
Organization
Judging of each class (see Judging Classes) shall be conducted by teams of three
judges - one each for Engine and Engine Compartment, Interiorand Exterior.
The score sheets, as provided by the NZJC, shall be used under the direction of
the Chief Judge/s for each show. An individual Chief Judge will be
appointed for each category: Stock and Custom.
[Please note that the ZCCA Show
Car Chair, currently Paul Hollander, will be handling the automated scoring and
coordination of the overall judging process. Any specific questions must be
addressed to the Chief Judge for the applicable category, currently Mark Lambert
for Stock and Todd Wagner for Custom].
The second change concerns
modifications:
II.
OUTLINE OF CLASSES
In all classes a modification is a visible modification, i.e., over boring and cams do not count. Non-stock wheels, an after market stereo, or a set (4) of mud flaps count as one modification each. Body kits count as one modification per part with the exception of side skirts and fender flares, each pair counts as one [#]. This is true even if the kit was bought all at one time. [Please note the deletion of the parenthetical phrase originally placed here [#] in the existing Manual].
One last point. There was a
question recently about whether or not these new rules were ‘official’ and
would be used this year. As ZCCA has done in the past, the National ZCCA Judging
Committee produces this Manual after considering input from various sources. The Judging Manual, as it currently stands, including the two
changes above, is the official Manual that will be used this year.
Just wanted to mention this point because someone did ask about it.
TROPHY INFORMATION: The
new breakdown of the Car Show into two categories, as noted in Kingston and
explained in the current Judging Manual, will produce a Gold Cup Trophy for the
Custom category to accompany the Gold Medallion for the Stock category.
To ensure proper labeling for the winners of a trophy, as well as being
economical with ZCCA funds by not having a bunch of trophies shipped each year
to every Convention, [there’s the CFO in me coming out againJ]
there will be a traveling Gold Medallion and Gold Cup trophy at each Convention
for photo ops, etc. The actual
trophy for a winner will be shipped to that winner after the Convention.
Interesting situation: since some past Gold Medallion winners have Z’s that
would currently qualify for the Custom category, a normally administrative, but
no doubt important, question has arisen – how to number the trophies from here
on out. Given the practical approach of the traveling trophies, this question
can be decided by the Member Clubs at this year’s Meetings.
We currently have sixteen [16]
Gold Medallion trophies awarded to date. Since this is the first year of the
Gold Cup trophy, the question has been posed about how to number both trophies
from here on out. Do we continue to
sequentially number the trophies regardless of which trophy is won [e.g. #17
Cup, #18 Medallion, #19 Cup, etc.]? A
consideration with this approach is that when there is a winner in each category
at a Convention, which category gets the lower number[s]? The other approach is
to start the numbering for the Gold Cup at #1 this year – the year of it’s
inception – and continue to sequentially number the Medallions starting at
#17.
Please review this situation
with your Club Members so we can arrive at a democratic decision at our Meetings
this year in San Antonio.
CARAVAN UPDATE: For those Club
Members planning on joining the Caravan from Dallas to San Antonio on Sunday,
June 16th, please get in touch with Steve Harrison zweebach@yahoo.com
so we can get a firmer headcount to ensure we have enough items on hand to cover
all participants.
CURRENT FINANCES: Attached are the current ZCCA
Financials. The $25,000 sponsorship from Nissan for this year’s Convention
Opening Reception and Closing Banquet has been approved, the paperwork has been
completed, and we are awaiting the check.
